One of my closest cousins graduated from college last year and I wanted to do something special for her. Being that she’s an aspiring nurse and a huge Tupac fan, I wanted to create a piece that implemented both loves in her life.
(I was able to breathe after painting the main section of the piece, lol)
I must say, I was hella nervous making this piece because I never did anything like it before. I was worried about the colors projecting through properly or if the sketch resembled the artist, lol I really was just overthinking everything. But, one thing I did keep in mind when illustrating this piece was to just trust myself. So, I played some music, drank some white wine, and let the brush do its thang! Lol
And between me and you, this happens to be one of my favorite pieces I’ve created so far.
(I used the lyrics to my cousin’s favorite song, “Keep Ya Head Up” as the background)
Tupac Amaru Shakur, some would say he was one the best rappers of all time, others, would agree his words were like poetry that stimulates the mind. What makes me admire Tupac, was not because of his music but his wisdom. He delivered a message in so many different ways that allowed all types of people, especially, in the African American community to come together and really examine the world we live in. He wanted us to be true to ourselves, he gave us something to think about and he continuously expressed the desire to create change. His being, his music, his truth, continues to influence us all to be great individuals and I highly respect him for that.
