I was the type of person who honestly did not like to read books growing up. The reason for that is because it made me feel like I was doing a mandatory homework assignment for class. I would constantly count the amount of pages I had left to read, never tried to understand the message behind the story, and took a break every 2 pages to scroll through my social media sites. It was really bad, lol. However, a year or two ago I’ve learned that I have to continuously fuel my brain with information on my own since I am no longer occupying my time in school.
It’s important to always educate yourself with new and interesting things to keep that brain power of yours energized. One of my really good friends is a book worm! She always loved reading books and the best advice she gave me, I will take with me to my grave, lol. She said, “There’s no rush and/or deadline to finishing a book, just as long as you finish! Choose a book of your interest and read one chapter a day.” I thought to myself, “One chapter a day!!?? Why didn’t I think of that? lol” Now every time I head to Barnes & Nobles to get a new book, I use her advice. (Thanks Leema Beema!)
I love reading self-help books!! Because it motivates me to keep moving forward in my own journey. I specifically enjoy books that are in relation to art, whether it’s how to become a better artist, learning the language of art, or how to think creatively, etc; I always seem to get a kick out of those types of readings. Below are a few of my favorite art/self-help books that can boost your confidence and unlock that creative mind of yours on your very own.
